Official SAT Test Prep

Colorado 11th-graders will sit for the SAT test on April 11, 2017. World-class SAT test prep is free through Khan Academy. Students may download the app for daily questions and simulate test day with full-length practice tests. College In Colorado also provides information and resources for other tests, such as the ACT.

Once students take the test and receive their scores, they should log into their CIC portfolio to record their scores. Students can see whether they need to strengthen scores or whether they are approaching, meeting or exceeding benchmarks on every section of the test.

Matching Grants Available for Local Scholarship Programs

The Colorado Department of Higher Education is accepting grant applications for the Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative. The Initiative will award $7 million to local scholarship programs with a local match requirement. Review further information here.

The 2009 School Finance Act mandated a CollegeInColorado.org account for every 6th-grader and an Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP) by 9th grade. Show Your Colors In Colorado

In honor of International Education Week (November 17-21), StudyColorado is hosting a photo contest. We encourage international students to show their colors in Colorado. We want to them to display their flag or wear national dress while enjoying a favorite spot in Colorado.

Remind students to enter the StudyColorado photo contest by noon on November 12th for a chance to win a gift card (Visa gift card, coffee shops and more!). Winners will be announced daily Monday, November 17th through Friday, November 21st.

Nominate a Special Student

Colorado College seeks to recognize exceptional Colorado students who have demonstrated a strong sense of "life of the mind" and meaningful engagement in their school and local communities. Nominations from professionals for rising juniors and seniors must be received by April 12, 2013.

Keeping the Dream Alive Conference is October 24th

School Counselor Corps Request for Proposals

Education providers that have not previously received School Counselor Corps funds may now submit an application. Approximately $480,000 will be awarded to increase the availability of effective school-based counseling within secondary schools.

An application training Webinar will be held Friday, March 22 from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. Review detailed information and apply by May 8, 2013.

Batch Account Creation is Here

The School Finance Act of 2009 specified that each 6th grade student have a CollegeInColorado.org account. College In Colorado has greatly reduced any additional burden these requirements may impose with batch account creation.

If a school can create a .csv-formatted file (such as an Excel spreadsheet) from their Student Information System that contains the correct student data, CollegeInColorado.org will create, free-of-charge, an account for each student in the file. Download step-by-step instructions herePDF icon.

Counseling Center Makeover Contest

College In Colorado partnered with Denver's Channel 7 and IKEA to bring you the Third Annual Counseling Center Makeover! Schools entered the contest for a face lift worth up to $3,000 to be completed by the College In Colorado staff. Application entries were due by March 16, 2012; watch for winner information here.

Have Students Interested in the Military or Taking the ASVAB?

Students taking the Armed Services Vocation Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) should record scores in their College In Colorado portfolio; the ASVAB scores may also be set up as an ICAP activity. District-wide Data Now Available on Report Central

College In Colorado has recently added an important new data aggregation tool for school districts called Report CentralPDF icon. This tool provides district-wide aggregation of student work on CollegeInColorado.org. It gives districts the power to build a custom report for one school, several schools or all schools, choose the type of report from more than 35 usage and outcome reports.

National Financial Capability Challenge

The U.S. Department of the Treasury is sponsoring the 2012 Challenge to gauge just how much high school students know about managing money. Between now and April 13th, any high school teach or educator who instructs students ages 13 - 19 may register for the program and download the toolkit to prepare students to take the brief exam. $50,000 in scholarships and grants will be awarded. Register by April 13, 2012.

School-Specific Plans of Study

Plans of study that your school, district or community colleges have designed to guide students in preparing for success in specific careers and postsecondary programs can be extraordinarily valuable to students as they work on their high school academic plan. We have taken pdfs of these plans and put them in the appropriate career cluster and pathway so that students can locate and use the pdfs as they work on their coursework plan.

October was College Application Month

Thank you for participating in College Application MonthNew window icon. We received 860 entries from Colorado students, which was a record amount for any College In Colorado scholarship promotion. Each week, we also gave away Cold Stone Creamery ice cream coupons to each student who completed the weekly scholarship task, a $500 IKEA gift card to one student, and a $500 IKEA gift card to one educator whose school participated in CAM. College Application Month Wrap Up

Schools from across the state joined College In Colorado for College Application Month. From Sanford, to Denver, to Platteville and Durango, students used CollegeInColorado.org to prepare for the college application process.

Throughout the month, we received 630 entries from Colorado students, which was a record amount for any College In Colorado scholarship promotion. Each week, we also gave away Cold Stone Creamery ice cream coupons to each student who completed the weekly scholarship task.
