Dear Faith: Should I take
the ACT and SAT tests, or just one of them? Should I take the tests
more than once?
Faith says: Most
colleges and universities will accept the ACT or SAT test scores
for admission. So, while you are exploring colleges, check with
each school where you plan to apply for their requirements
regarding the ACT or SAT tests.
There is no magic number for how many times you
should take the ACT or SAT. For some students, taking the test once
is enough; while others may need to take a test twice or more to
improve their scores.
It's also important when you take the tests. The
ACT is considered a junior-level test--it tests material that is
generally covered in 11th grade. Many high schools recommend for
students to take their first ACT test in the spring of their junior
year, while the information is current. Most students take the SAT
test for the first time in the spring of their junior year and
possibly retake it in the fall of their senior year if they want to
improve their score.
