Privacy information

Your privacy is very important to us. The information you provide on this application, including your social security number, is protected by the Privacy Act.

Under the Higher Education Act of 1992, we are allowed to ask for this information to determine if you are eligible for federal financial aid, and if so, how much. We will share the information with other governmental agencies, such as the IRS, to verify your eligibility. If you do not give us all of the information needed to process your application, financial aid may be delayed or denied.

Under the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, you are not required to complete a government form unless it displays a valid Office of Management and Budget (OMB) control number. The valid OMB control number for the FAFSA is OMB #1845-0001. It is located in the upper right hand corner of the application.

If you have completed a pre-application worksheet for the FAFSA, you have all the information necessary to complete it. If not, fill out this worksheet to discover what types of questions you must answer about yourself and your parent(s) (if you are a dependent student), and what documents you will need while completing the online application.

If you (and a parent) have applied for a Personal Identification Number (PIN) you will be able to electronically sign your FAFSA. To apply for this PIN, go to the Department of Education’s PIN Registration site.
