Fill out the FAFSA no matter what! The federal government is the largest single source of financial aid, and you don't want to miss out. Filing the form is free. Even if you don't foresee needing any financial assistance, circumstances can change unexpectedly; if you already have a FAFSA on file, you'll be able to deal with any financial emergency much more quickly.
Remember that you can provide estimated figures on the FAFSA. Estimating enables you to file the FAFSA as soon as possible after the first of the year, even if your family's tax forms are not yet completed. Just check the estimate box and you can fine tune later.
